Podcast: Six Megatrends in Society
The Social Changes That Could Revitalize the Economy
Six major trends in Japanese society have, for the first time in a generation, created the possibility of economic revitalization. These trends have not yet reached critical mass, and will not do so unless nurtured by policymakers. The good news is that the trends themselves add to the incentives policymakers have to amplify them.
The trends include: the shift in technology to the digital era, a generational change in attitudes, alteration in gender relations, the demographic crunch, decades of low growth, and globalization. Some, like demography, are a double-edged sword, having both positive and negative impact on the prospects for economic revival.
I discuss all this in a podcast conversation with Lydia Beukelman at https://anchor.fm/businesssuccessjapan/episodes/Japans-Six-Megatrends-and-Why-They-Matter-with-Richard-Katz-e17rgpm
